I don't want to commit treason here, since I'm a pretty faithful and committed lover of Pho Ca Dao in Mira Mesa... but it's a pretty far trek in the middle of the work day, I hope they'll be forgiving and I won't have to endure public humiliation like this man.
Now that that's out of the way, I scoped out some pho places that were close to work online, and settled on giving Pho Xpress a shot. And I must say! Despite what it looks like from the outside, and despite the fact that when you walk in there's a counter for you to select food for Chinese food takeout, and despite the fact that there's very little pho selection compared to many other places... their food is actually very good! The portions are smaller than you would get at a lot of other pho places, but it was still a fair amount, and a very yummy amount!
I got the shrimp pho, which was very good. The shrimp wasn't marinated like I was hoping (or rather like it is at Ca Dao) but shrimp is shrimp, so it was delicious nonetheless. The noodles were cooked just right, and the broth was pretty clear and flavorful.
My co-diners vouched for the "bun", aka the vermicelli bowls. They even went as far as to begin saying "I actually like it better here than at ......." So, as you might deduce, it was well received.
It's nice to know there's a good pho place near work! Nice? Or black hole for money? I'm going go ahead and say both. Sorry, no pictures! Much too hungry today, but I will surely visit again.
