Other random deets:
--They serve Pepsi branded products. This is very important for some people. It also might be important for some people to know that they offer Orange Crush on tap here.
--Their hours are from 11am-9pm, every day.
--They have indoor & outdoor seating.
The joint is in the Sports Arena area, so I headed over after work. The joint turned out to be a bit smaller than what I was envisioning, but no matter! I was waiting for the bf & co., so I walked in and looked around at the stuff that was up on the walls. The guy behind the counter was really nice, and offered me a cup of water while I waited for the rest of the party. I polited declined and proceeded to half discreetly half creepily take pictures from outside.
I ordered The Works cheesesteak with a side of garlic fries. The Works is made of steak, cheese, onions, mushrooms, and cherry peppers. Now, Gaglione Bros. offers 4 different peppers: jalapeno, cherry pepper, crushed red pepper, and pepperoncinis. They also have a relish version of the cherry peppers. I don't know about the other ones so much, but cherry peppers in my cheesesteak were *spicy*! Not to say at all that it wasn't tasty, because it very very much was, but just be warned. You can substitute for any of the other peppers also. Everything was perfectly mixed and melted together to make a fantastically delicious cheesesteak.
The Works Cheesesteak
Garlic Fries
The garlic fries. Oh, the garlic fries. I love garlic and I LOVE garlic fries. But it's surprisingly hard to find good ones! I saw the man fry the steak fries in front of me, sprinkle with salt, throw in the minced italian parsley, throw on 2 HEAPING ice scoop mounds of minced garlic, and mix it all together. They were absolutely heavenly. Probably the best I've had, next to the ones at Cafe Japengo in La Jolla. In my recent memory, I've also had them at Karl Strauss and Gordon Biersch, both of which were only so-so. So, if you love garlic fries like I do, you need to trek over to Gaglione Bros.
Also ordered were: Cheez Whiz Steak with Mushrooms, Baja California Cheesesteak, and Jalapeno Fries.
Cheez Whiz Steak with Mushrooms
The Cheez Whiz Steak with Mushrooms was.... cheez whiz. No frills, just straight up legitimate fake cheese. With steak, onions, and mushrooms, of course. There's not much to say about this one... just that - if you like Cheez Whiz, you will love this cheesesteak, as a fellow diner did today.
Close up of the Cheez Whiz Steak cross-section:
The Baja California was pretty much the same as mine (The Works), just without the mushrooms, and with jalapenos instead of cherry peppers. Also pretty tasty.
Baja Cheesesteak
Can't speak for the Jalapeno Fries because it looked too much like a heart attack, even for this fatty. But it's steak fries, topped with... you know it, Cheez Whiz, and chopped up jalapenos. This is one for the daring.
Jalapeno Fries
The verdict:
Scrumptious. Will definitely be back.
--fatty monkey's status has changed to Away - digesting.
