Patagonia

Welcome fellow fattys! We surely hope that you are a fatty if you are reading this blog. Take no offense, please, for being a fatty is purely AWESOME (think Barney Stinson). We love to eat, and we're proud of it!

I'll be blogging about restarants in various places. Today, I'll be starting with Patagonia in downtown Cabo San Lucas. Now, I know the chances of you going to Cabo any time soon is slim to none, but promise me that if you do go in the future that you will hit up this incredible establishment (see more below). If Cabo isn't a foreseeable destination, don't worry. I'll also be posting on restaurants in the Bay, my favorites in New York and LA.

But back to Patagonia. Here are the basics:
Devoured on: 8.22.09
Cuisine: Argentinian Steakhouse
Sets you back: $20-35
Where to find it: Downtown Cabo San Lucas, off the main strip

A local expert from Expedia recommended this little place to us. To be honest, we started off the night a little hestitant. We asked a couple other staffers at our resort if this was a good place to eat, but either they hadn't eaten there themselves or had never even heard of the place! Our taxi driver had to call in for directions to this place too - not a good sign. Our hestitations only grew when the cab dropped off us at an empty, poorly-lit hole-in-the-wall. But as the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover. Or in this case, never judge a restaurant by its lack of a real door? In any case, good thing we didn't keep walking though, otherwise we would have missed out on the best meal of our trip (hands down).

We started off with a few appetizers and ordered the Parrillada. The Ajillo Mushrooms were amazing - full of garlic, onion and wine flavor. The Empanadas were tasty and fresh, but if I had known what was coming for me during the main course, I definitely would have saved the stomach space.

Let me just put it out there that I am a huuuuuge steak-lover. I would pick red meat over pretty much anything any day. In the States, I've had the pleasure (well, sometimes pleasure) at dining at some fabulous Steakhouses (Alexanders, Mortons, Smith & Wollensky, Ben & Jacks, Texas de Brazil) and therefore couldn't believe the quality of meat served at Patagonia in what felt like the middle of nowhere. All four of us were honestly blown away.

The Parrillada was labeled to feed four but even us four meat-lovers didn't come close to finishing (it could probably have fed two more) It consisted of a mix of different cuts of steak, two types of sausages, lamb and short ribs. My favorite cut was the Top Sirloin, which was very tender, juicy and full of flavor. The Filet was also excellent, as were the sausages (Argentinian Chorizo). The short ribs are definitely worth mentioning, too, which were the most fatty (!) and therefore contained the most flavor. I've never been a fan of Flank Steak, but one co-diner loved it. My only complaint was that the lamb was a little dry for my taste, but half the party also enjoyed it as well. The meat was also served with salad and french fries as potatoes are a must with meat!

The meat was practically cooked in front of us since their large grill is in the front corner of their store, thereby ensuring the food's freshness. The service was also quick and attentive. Together, (including drinks and tip) the four of us spent $150 - not at all bad since we had a ton of leftovers. All in all, Patagonia is highly recommended and it'll be a meal none of us will soon forget.

D-licious. If you ever do make it there, would you be so kind to bring me back some? My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

And there's this fatty's cue to sign out.
