Tom Ham's Lighthouse -- Harbor Island, San Diego

My roommates are big seafood consumers, so after some yelping of all the seafood restaurants available for restaurant week, we decided on Tom Ham's Lighthouse. It's on Harbor Island in San Diego, right by the airport. I was always under the impression that Harbor Island was made up of only the Sheraton, so looping around and behind to find Tom Ham's was a pleasant surprise because the view is beautiful!

Not sure what this called, but it was a mini caprese that they gave us to sample when they brought out the bread. Really tasty and generous of them!

Lobster Bisque: I had a picture for this, but I accidentally deleted it :( It was probably my favorite dish of the night though. It was amazing with the bread. You couldn't really taste the lobster, but it was rich and creamy and delicious.

Scallops Cortez: Didn't try this, since I'm not a scallop fan, but I was told it was just ok, and not so worth it.

Stuffed Salmon: The salmon was stuffed with goat cheese, lump crab, spinach, & sundried tomatoes, but it ended up just being a rich filling that didn't taste like anything in particular. It's the main reason I'd give a 7 for my experience instead of a 9 or 10. The salmon was pretty dry, and the pesto sauce was pretty mediocre. It wasn't awful, but it was pretty disappointing.

Beef Rib-eye: This was really tender and flavorful, but the medium-rare turned out to be more of a seared rare. Came with a side of mashed sweet potatoes.

Mud Pie: Totally rich, totally tasty :) Lots of brownie & cheesecake chunks!

Peach Cobbler: This was not the best ever, but it was good. The pastry shell was pretty hard.. I would have preferred more soft and flaky. The ice cream was really interesting - the menu said it was vanilla, but it tasted a little different, not quite sure where to place it.

We booked our reservation for Wednesday, which happened to be their 50% off wine night, so we got a lovely little Pinot Grigio to go with our meal, which was a steal!

The verdict: I'd go again, but I'd definitely try other things. The view is awesome. The service is good, but a little slow. For now, I'd say it's about 55% ambiance, 45% quality of food -- hoping next time they can up the latter.

That's all for now! I don't have any good pictures from Via Italia Trattoria, but perhaps I will do a quick review of it, in case anyone is interested in going for a taste :)
