Well folks, I've recently moved into North Park, and let me tell you, it is *not* conducive to watching my diet and most definitely *not* conducive to budgeting food expenses. At least I now walk nearly everywhere I eat, so that's a plus? Emphasis on the question mark. In any case, this brings about a whole new chapter in food venturing, so I'm back in the game! In just the last 10 days, I've been a crap-ton of new places, so to kick off, I'll start with a place that does the fatty in fattyChat justice.
Marie's Diner
3016 University Ave
San Diego, CA 92104
-24 hours Wed-Sun
-runs between $8-$12 an entree, $4-8 for dessert
I have this compulsive need to know about all the 24 hour joints within a 5 mile radius no matter where I live. I don't know why, since I'm grandma sauce now and can barely even stay up past 11pm, but nevertheless, I still need to know what's available to me past 10pm. Suffice it to say, I was definitely excited to know that Marie's is just a few blocks away and open 24 hours on the days I might remotely need it to be. The place is your classic diner, complete with the black & white tile, some random arcade machine, and a smattering of photos on the walls. We went for dessert, because I'd been craving a good ole fatty banana split for weeks, and Marie's seemed like just the place. They serve Dreyer's ice cream!, which is pretty cool, and lends to a lot of different flavor options. The banana split was about 8 bucks, and was nothing less than overwhelming. 3 scoops of ice cream, banana, chocolate syrup, a ton of whipped cream, peanuts, cherries, basically the whole shebang.
I really only got maybe 7 bites in and could not have anymore. It was good, but I was kind of bummed because there was only a little ice cream compared to all the toppings and it just turned into a giant syrup/whipped cream soup :(
In any case, Marie's is your typical diner, nothing to brag about, not much to complain about, but nice to have around.
To come:
Tao
Ranchos
Mosaic Wine Bar
Bangkok Spices Thai
Vo's
... and then some that I can't even remember!
