I just realized that I haven't posted about Parkhouse before, and as near and dear it is to my heart, I just have to dedicate a post to my favorite breakfast/brunch place. I discovered this place perusing for restaurant.com gift certificates and will never go back. To preface, there are a *lot* of breakfast/brunch places to try in San Diego. I've tried Broken Yolk, Hash House, The Tractor Room, The Eggery, The Cottage, Bibby's and more! But they all just seem to pale in comparison.
Parkhouse is tucked away in North Park off El Cajon, and at the risk of sounding like a total girl, it's just the most adorable and cozy little place. It's a house that was revamped into a restaurant with some outdoor seats set up on the front patio, and the decor is a mashup of quaint, old, modern, antique, and with lots of fun colors.
I've never tried anything I didn't
like love here, but my personal favorites are the bagel with salmon "starter", and the pan fried linguine and egg *with* bacon. Don't discount the bagel with salmon, it comes tomatoes and basil and some greens in a light vinaigrette, and it is, in a word, amazing. Also don't discount the pan-fried linguine. I know how strange it must sound to have pasta for breakfast, but until you've tried it, you'll never know it's gloriousness. I've tried to make it on my own at home... not the same. Their hot caramel milk and unfiltered apple juice are also must tries, or if you're feeling a little less awake, go for a bloody mary or mimosa. They also always have the most unique daily specials.
Tips:
-Try to get a discount gift certificate on restaurant.com when they're like $2 or $3, these sell out FAST when these deals are going on.
-A "huge wedge of melon" is no joke. You get a huge fruit salad.
-A reservation in advance is a MUST.
hot caramel milk
pan fried linguine and bacon
french toast with fresh blueberries
PH benedict
egg scramble with a mound of potato hash
Of course everyone is entitled to their own breakfast choices, but if you come to Parkhouse do yourself a favor and try something different! Their homemade preserves are *really* good, so if you don't happen to get some with your meal, steal some off someone else plate or get some on the side with toast.
